Jason Reding Quinones, the US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, resigned from the Justice Department on Friday, according to Attorney General Todd Blanche. Quinones oversaw a federal probe into Russia's alleged support for Trump's 2016 election campaign.

The resignation follows Democratic victories in midterm elections that will give the party investigative and oversight powers in Congress, including subpoena power. Several probes are expected to focus on alleged politicization of the Justice Department.

Quinones also oversaw the indictment of 94-year-old Cuban revolutionary Raul Castro. Three former officials, including former FBI Director James Comey, were reportedly subpoenaed as part of Quinones' investigation, although none have been charged related to that probe. A judge dismissed an earlier case against Comey in November.

Harmeet Dhillon, head of the DOJ's civil rights division, resigned Thursday. John Eisenberg, assistant attorney general in charge of the national security division, also submitted his resignation Friday.
